Starter will not engage

ok ,had tranny out ,starter off, primary all off, got back together, and starter just clicks , doesn't spin, will not turn over motor -- where do I start ?

How about a load test on the battery to verify it can put out the amps

dangerdan has a good point about the battery since it's been down, did you install a star washer under the ground cable on the starter when you went together, I've seen clutch cables smoke & melt because the battery tries to get it's ground through it on rubber mount models, Starter relay is a easy check. Most likely something did not get put back the way it was? If all checks out good power wise you can pop the outer primary cover off and hit the start button waching the jackshaft. You might see where the problem is. Good way to lose fingers though, don't get near it, keep children & pets in the other room. good luck
