I have a 04 sportster 883 XL. Recently during a snowstorm a limb fell and busted out my speedo. I have purchased another one but my question is this. Will I be able to directly install this new one or once it is installed will I have to wed it with the ecm? I know that I will have to have my mileage programmed on it but is that all? Also are the DTC codes the same as for the 07 models?
 
It is a direct plug and play. However, only some dealers can program the speedo with the mileage. I just replaced mine and the dealer could not do it, they had to order one from HD already done.
 
Thanks for the info. Is it possible to find out the mileage on the old speedo even though it will not display anything?
