Sportster has hot rear pipe

My buddy has a 2002 Sportster. The top end needed to be put back together. We put it all back together and it fired right up. Problem is the rear pipe gets VERY hot, very quickly. The front seems normal. Someone told him it was the head. Sent it out and the head is fine but the problem is the same.

Any ideas?

I checked the plugs and the rear plug looks to be running richer (its more wet and black) then the front.

I also check the cam timing. It looks right also.

I running out of hair to pull out.

Any ideas before I set it on fire.

Have you checked for intake leaks yet? How about valve adjustment if they are adjustable ? You give us little to go on here.
