Sportster 1986 - clutch not working

Hallo friends. I built my own sporty motorcycle.
I have sporty 1986 year engine.
I put the clutch and pressure, the cover and cable (from softail - is little too long but I think this is not a problem).
Few days the clutch worked great - now is not working.
Clutch lever is loose, until the full pressing -
then I feel some resistance - but the clutch is still not working.
What is that? Help me. PLEASE

The Cover? I am not understanding this, But the cable if too long will never give you the right adjustment IMO

When clutch worked - the slack on the lever was ok (1/5 inch).
Now it's almost 1 inch - I know and I feel it's to long.

I've installed a cable from electra glide and I see it's a bit too long, but I didn't know if it could cause such problems.

Sportster clutch cable like most of it' parts are unique, so likely your Electraglide cable won't fit. Get the correct part number from Zanotti's or your local dealer...then decide whom will supply your cable (if in stock at your local dealer buy it there...less pain, less wait)! :newsmile04:

Since yesterday I opened the cover once and the clutch mechanism.
I fixed it back. For several minutes there was OK.
Then something "KNOCKED" inside and again the clutch was not working.
Halp.

I would pull it all a part and check the release mechanism, just because of the longer cables tried, too much free travel as well as too little may have caused some damage to the release as well as the pressure plate

Hallo. I know that.
It is broken thread of the mounting screw (tension screw).
I have replace and will be OK.
:)
