Speedometer issue

Good Afternoon,
I ride a 1996 FLHR Road King with a speedometer problem. When I first start out on a ride, my speedometer works smoothly and accuratly for the first hour. Then as I continue to ride, the needle begins to stick and drag, giving me an inaccurate reading. I have replaced the sending unit that looks at 4th gear, and have had the Harley shop guys check it out. They say " it sweeps correctly at all steps". I would appreciate some feedback from someone who recognizes this problem.

my 93 flh in winter cold// if i hit 50 mph the needle would go to max. id try to oil gears in unit. through bulb hole. oh & welcome..

Thank you both for your comments. I will try the oil trick, and yes, the needle sticks going up and down the speed range. When I come to a complete stop, the needle sticks at 10 or 12 mph, but when things cool down, it will return to 0 when stopped.
