speedo problem

2006 Heritage. Speedometer stopped working, odometer is working. The speedo needle is pointing straight down, ccw from zero. When I went into diagnostics, the speedo needle went ccw, or backwards, during the sweep test. (EDIT)

I tried the diag again, and the speedo now will end up in different places during the sweep test. It will go ccw to about 20mph then go cw to 70mph and stop there. The next time it will do something totally different. Fried speedo?
