Smart security Key Fob

My owners manual says to replace the battery in the fob every year, I have 2 fobs but only use 1. Is it neccessary to keep a battery in the unused fob or will the memory remain without it?

Shouldn't be a problem if its not used. It will retain the memory as long as you use the other one.

I had never considered that. My spare fob has been in a drawer with no battery for over a year. I just put the battery in it and went to the garage. The bike started right up, then I put the fob on a shelf 12' away, no response from the starter.

I just replaced mine tonight. It was abou$5.50 for two battries.
