shovelhead electrical problem

1973 fl starts and idles fine, but when i try to ride, the bike shuts down completly after a few hundred feet. and wont start back up. then i hear a click when i turn the ignition switch on and off.

Sounds like main breaker or relay releasing? Here are some wiring diagrams to try to work your way through. Just remember, disturb as little as possible while trying to find the source of the problem. If you believe that *click* you heard is a clue, try and find out where it is coming from, and use the schematic to determine most likely cause. Keep us advised as to your progress.
