primary oil ???

    gotta change oil in primary on a 1996 harley sporster 1200 c . THE HARLEY DEALER GAVE ME harley 20-50w sae oil .. their brand . It calls for 32 ounces
    This is the right oil\lube to use ? Thanks in advance .

    Harley formula+ is an oil i have used in my sportster for a few years now i previously used Harley sport trans fluid both have given me no problems

    Wonder why the dealer gave you engine oil (even though it would work) instead of the Formula+ (Harley recommended) they sell that is made for that very purpose?

    thats what had me concerned . but thanks ffor the replies though . now just finding time to do it :)

    If you're concerned, save the engine oil for the engine and go buy the Formula+ for the primary/tranny.

    You'll need engine oil for the future change. I'd put in whatever makes you feel comfortable.

    There are other brands of oil for the primary/tranny on the Sportster.
    Bel-Ray, Spectro, etc., etc......
