Pops on start up

Just a question.
Sometimes when I start my bike it will pop like a gun shot. It doesn't do it all the time. When it does the engine light comes on and goes back out. I have tried checking for any codes, but nothing comes up. Thing is it only does it once in awhile.
The bike is an 04 Heritage with a stage one up grade. A/C and S/E slip ons and no tuner.
Any thoughts?

How many miles on it? And is it a backfire through the Air Cleaner or exhaust?

So have you not done a fueler with stage one? If not rec Dobeck TFI. It maybe excessively lean at times causing back fire.. Motorcycle Electronic Fuel Injection Controllers

It back fires through the exhaust. It never use to do it and only ever so often now.
Would a fueler help that much?

You really should finish the stage 1 by adding a fueler. Yes, it will help tremendously. Your bike will thank you for it. Get you a TFI. Forum members get a discount and so do Vets. You'll be glad you did.
