Old Mike has a good point regarding the necessity that the wheel be to the left because the steering lock will not work to the right (my old Yamaha did work to the right or to the left). On those rare occasions where it would be desireable for wheel to leaning to the left as to be unstable...i.e. downhill, I usually back into the space or move the bike at angle (wheel touching curb) so steering lock works.

The key is to ensure the bike angle is not so severe as to give problems leveling the bike off the jiffy stand, especially if the parking space is crowned rather than flat (I weigh only 130 lbs) so I do not want the bike to lean too far if ladened fully. :s
