I have one tender for 2 batteries. About every week, I go into the basement and switch the tender from one battery to the other. They are both new from last year, so we will see how long they last. For what its worth, I used to do about the same with my boat batteries, I kept them in the basement and about once a week i would go down there and switch the clips to the other battery and set the timer for the max time of 2 hours at 2 amps. My boat batteries lasted me about 6-7 years if i remember correctly. Again, this is just what worked for me. From what I understand, a battery just experiences less wear if it is kept closer to a full charge. Overcharging could be just as bad if not worse then leaving under charged, and of course, don't ever leave a battery on a concrete floor.
