Recently read somewhere else on this site that Pledge could be used to polish just about anything on a HD - and with great success too. Would this not solve the problem with aluminium?
I prefer semi-chrome and elbow grease. Once cleaned up good it will keep the aluminum in good condition. If the aluminum is pitted you can try 0000 steel wool or 2000 grit wet/dry paper.
I have used semi-chrome,flitz,never-dull, and mothers cost wise mothers is probally the best. Flitz and Semi-Chrome come in small tubes but if the aluminum is really bad they work great. Never-Dull also works well.
