what is the best methods and cleaners/polish for making aluminum engine parts look like chrome.

I used to use Semi-Chrome polish on a soft buffer wheel attached to a 1/4 inch electric drill. You'll learn how much pressure is best by the results you see.

Semi-Chrome with a buffing wheel, unless I really want to get fancy then jewelers rouge, starting out with a courser grit working to a finer one.
Chrome last so much longer and is so so so much easier, but does not have that warmth of a polished metal.

Check you local HD dealer. All of them around me stock it. Or go to the link below. You could probably do a search on Amazon.com to check for better prices.

After you finish with the semi chrome, use some flour (like you make bread with) to clean it up. it will show anywhere you have any residue left over.
