There have been some that have seen unusually low readings on the oil temp gauges like 180*-200* that read off the oil tank like in softails more than others. Unless it is a frigid day the temps should be up in the lower 200* area.
One way to verify the accuracy of the gauge is as follows...
Boil a pot of water for starters...
The boiling water will not go above 212*, test the accuracy of the gauge by dipping the tip in the boiling water to find out if it is accurate or not. If it is accurate, it will register 212* when you put the tip in the boiling water after a few seconds.
If not buy a new one.
