Had a 1995 Dyna and always used the long filter. I was on a trip from Wis. and had my stator fry in California. The tech replacing it said one possibility for the failure could have been that the long filter mounts VERY close to the plug that goes into the crankcase and MAY have rubbed on the long filter during operation and wiggled it loose enough to cause a short. Used a short filter since with no issues. Just sayin'.

I think any brand is fine as long as its designated for your particular vehicle. If fram was blowing up engines after paying for 100 of them R&D department would be fired.

My Dyna uses the definitive 5 filter from Harley,
and my Fat Boy uses a 25 micron absolute filtration stainless washable filter.
The 5 micron, from what I hear is not absolute; so it let's particals larger than 25 microns by.
Even if I'm wrong made the best decision based on current info.
