I have a 2002 Road King and the wrench size is a 7/16, I always remove the saddlebags when I take mine off, I also outline the brackets with a sharpie to get the exact location when I re-install so I dont have to think about its proper position for re-alignment the sharpie mark will clean easily off the chrome with a little laquer thinner or similiar solvent , but I dont even bother where its located is never seen and undoubtedly I'll be taking it off again for something else sooner or later.
