Nippon/denso starter for an 88 model FL?

I have a 1988 FLHTP with 17,733 miles. I'm not a fan of the hitachi starter that came on my bike, and I would like to switch to "denso". I think/hope that I am having starter drive/clutch issues now, as everything else appears to check out. Having a background in starter and alternator rebuilding, I am a big fan of the denso.

Before I tear my bike apart to check fit, and compatability issues with this swap, I would like to hear if anyone else has done this, or if anyone has any info that would help me with this project. Any insite will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Voodoocowboy. I know next to nothing about your model starter (solenoid mounted to inner primary cover?), but I do have some cross reference "denso" part numbers for later model starters. That might get you started. I can PM them to you.
