New battery drains between rides.

New battery just replaced. Will drain so that the bike will not start after sitting for a couple hours. This is a custom bike and little to no info available. Basic is 2000 hard tail with a 1340cc engine. Disconnected all wires to + terminal. Main wire to starter shows .314 ohms to ground. All other wires read OK.

.314 ohms is almost a dead short. That can't be.

Are you sure it is not .314 K ohms or .314 M ohms?

Starter could be dead short tho it probably would not start most of the time, check the solenoid next

I would think that any short that would drain the battery in a couple of hours would make a pretty good spark when hooking up the negative battery cable. Have you checked the charging system?

What happens to the lights when you hit starter? If they dim alot when trying to start with fresh charge on battery, it could very well be the starter.

I have also seen brand new batteries that were junk, you might try having it load tested.
