multiple throttle cable breakages

Hi Guys, here a problem i thought i had beat but has come back again.i have a 94 nostalgia fitted with a 42mm mikuni, single cable. The braided cable fitted to the bike when i bought it 18months ago, broke after 600 miles,so i had the inner cable replaced at a local shop that specialises in making both automotive cables and motorcycle types. This cable lasted 3 outings[ approx 3-400miles ] and also broke up at the throttle end.Had this remade again and that also broke -same place and around the same mileage.By this time i had had enough as i was beginning to be an expert at draining the tank and removing the right side tank to get access for to remove the cable.I wondered whether the joining of the ball ferrule at the throttle end with easyflowing the fitting on,was work hardening the cable as the break is always approx 5 to 6 mm down from the ball shaped ferrule when it goes,so i went to my local stealer who wasnt interested in trying to locate a genuine cable for the set up so i went to another stealer out of town who also lost interest as soon as i said mikuni carb fitted!
At that point i decided that they would never see another dollar out of me and promptly ordered online a cable from JP cycles which i fitted and has been good up until today when curiosity got the better of me and i opened up the throttle clamshell to discover that the cable on that had half of its individual wires broken!!!! has any body had this happen before cos now i am paranoid that its gonna snap on some distant road somewhere!! Many thanks in advance, nick.

Do you have the stock throttle assy. on the bar or an aftermarket set up? The original set up is for two cable.

I also have a 42mm Mikuni on one of my bikes and use my stock Harley Keihn cables. The cables have 22 years and 65 + thousand miles on them. I think you have chafing in the area where the cable exits the throttle tube and meets the twist grip.

thanks for the input guys, looks like i will be going to twin cables then eh! although my ride is a 94,the chrome clam shells appear to be the later model ones with the smooth buttons and take the threaded elbow into the clamshell. On my mikuni when you look into the aircleaner side,my cable attaches on the left side of the carb, but all pics that i have seen show cable attachment on the right side-do i have an early model mikuni? i mention this because there seems to be more room under the tank if the cables were to have been a right side connection especially with having the 5 gallon tanks on my bike, cheers
nick.
