Stay Safe.....God Bless

Day 16, June 17, 2012, Sunday

Another great ride today with perfect weather. I left Nipomo, CA at 0550 and tried not to wake Brantley up, but he came out of the house as I was ready to pull out. I can’t thank him enough for the great time I had at his beautiful house with him. Although it was almost 100 degrees in Pearsonville, CA when I stopped for fuel, I left the leather jacket on. The humidity is so low it feels a lot cooler to me. The first nine miles of my eastward trek were in pretty thick fog, but quickly cleared. I had a sweat shirt, chaps and heavy gloves on. They had to be removed within a couple of hours. I headed for Lone Pine, CA where I got a room for the night. I headed up to see Mount Whitney as it was not far away then came back for some golden throat dust remover and a shower. 323.0 miles for the day, 3975 for the adventure thus far. Tomorrow I plan on getting up early and riding through Death Valley, CA and making my was toward Glendale, AZ. Not sure how long it will take, but I don’t plan on any more multi-hundreds of miles a day. We’ll see, sometimes I get impatient. I'll post some pictures after I get some chow.

Thanks for letting us come along for the ride. Enjoy reading your posts and seeing the pictures. Ride safe and keep her between the lines!!!:)

Thank you all for the kind comments regarding the adventure.

I stopped for some chow in the middle of nowhere and nothing was open.

Tank, you know how meticulous I am about my itinerary, who knows when I'll get to Glendale, but I will get there. Here's a couple of random shots getting to Lone Pine, CA today.

Heading through Death Valley in the morning, that should be interesting.

Day 17, June 18, 2012, Monday

As I start this documentary at 1715 on Monday, it was a great riding day. Had I written it four hours ago it would have been different. I tossed and turned all night, like I usually do with a mission ahead. I got up at 0240 and packed the bike. By 0345 I had the tank filled and proceeded toward Death Valley. I stopped at a gas station in Lone Pine, CA, Lee’s Frontier, for some coffee and something to eat. I got to talking to Lee, the owner, and I’m pretty sure we solved all the worlds problems within half an hour. I normally don’t ride in the dark, but there was nobody else on the road and by 0510 I had arrived at the sign letting me know I was entering Death Valley. What an amazing, although warm place, I couldn’t comprehend the magnitude of the vastness of it. Pictures don’t do it justice, like many of the places I have seen. I ended up for chow at the Whistle-stop Café, in Nipton, CA. I originally missed the exit to avoid Las Vegas due to the unbelievable wind that was blowing me all over the road. Once I entered NV, I knew I had gone to far and had to backtrack another ten miles through horrendous wind and blowing sand. I finally made my way to Laughlin, NV and rode the main drag, just to say I had been there. I stopped at a convenience store for some cold water and the clerk said I could get a room at Harrah’s, Casino for $29. I went there, but it was so congested and busy, I wouldn’t have stayed there for free. I ended up at a nice place with the bike outside my door in Bullhead City, AZ. 372.2 miles for the day, hard ones, and 4349 for the adventure thus far. Pictures to follow after I get some chow.

sounds like you need a beer with that chow :D

Take a nice long walk at the end of the day. It`ll help you unwind and get a little exercise to hopefully help you sleep. It seems to work for me since sitting and riding, while mentally exhausting, don`t do much for the physical side.

oldhippie, I ended up walking a lot further than I planned to get some golden throat dust remover. The walk was fair, but the throat dust remover was a lot better. Here's a couple of pictures from today's adventure.
