I have a rattle when I first start up and when the motor warms to operating temp the noise goes away. Ideas??

Try to isolate the noise where it is coming from. Most of those noises are usually found with the heat shields on the exhaust.

using the screw driver trick the motor sounds solid in the lifter area and I just installed a Vance and Hines 2 into exhaust system about a month ago. I bought it used, does anyone know if there is a special way to install these pipes? Thinking since the motor quites down after a few miles that the expansion from the heat is sealing the pipes on the cylinders.?????

Check the front header pipe around floorboard/rear brake pedal to see if it's touching anywhere,it's real tight around that area. The motor shackes alittle and the frame don't.
