I bought an expensive dwell tach timing meter about 15 years ago with an induction pickup. It was recommended for all types of vehicles including motorcycle.
I dont trust my existing tachometer.
Last week I decided to use the meter on the Harley. I made sure the arrow on the induction pickup was pointing towards #1 sparkplug (Front). Rght away the bike started to back fire. When I disconnected the device, the bike ran normally. So maybe this meter does not work on motorcycles.

I am looking for a recommendation on a external tachmeter that uses an induction pickup.

    Thanks Dan

Are you sure there is no problems with the wire itself or loose connections at the plug connection?

Very odd that it would miss.

Glider you hit the nail right on the head. I found a broken wire behind the instrument panel where I had placed a small tie wrap.

Glad you found the problem, I just love to hit the nail on the head instead of my thumb! :bigsmiley20:
