LCD dipstick

I purchased a Yamaha Scooter for my wife....It was made in China.
I was looking at the sticker on a SONY camera the other day...Made in China.
Seems like every one is doing it.

Sadly, you are correct. :small3d002: I really ain't dumping on Asian made anything. I sure have my collection of the stuff as well. What frosts me is paying good money for a product I believed the dealer, the parts guy and ultimately, Harley stood behind. I had to argue with them to take the first one back. It had been 33 days since I purchased it. They only backed electronics for 30 days. Had less than 1,000 miles on it. The second one lasted almost twice as long, around 2K. Decided it just wasn't worth the pain and ate it.

American, Asian, German or Martian. I only ask for an honest product for my honest money. Used to be that wasn't too much to ask...:small3d031:

I have the fairing mount oil temp gauge along with an oil cooler because I like to keep a close eye on what my engine is doing, the temp is taken from the bottom of the oil pan, I hear some say that there is nothing you can do if you are running hot so don't worry about it. Well you can alway shut the bike off if it gets too hot, the argument about no air flowing when it is shut off doesn't fly, because you would be amazed how fast the oil temp drops when shut off.
As for the LCD temp/oil level gauge, my buddy has one and just for kicks I put it in my bike to see how close the two were, after riding all day it seemed my fairing mount gauge always read about 20* cooler than the dipstick gauge. So now the question is which one is right? I think it may be due to where the temp is taken, ie. bottom of oil pan vs dipstick/

I went to the dealer and took a look at the LCD Digital Dip stick. It only took 5 minutes looking at it to know that I was goiing to buy it. Man this thing is cool.

My dealer is pretty cool. If I have any issues with it then I'll return it.
It's new but I am glad I got it. I like to know how hot the oil is getting and the level thing is cool too. Maybe one day I'll get the Fairing oil temp gauge.
Until then, I'm good to go. :D

Are these diosticks worth the money? Its hot out here in Nevada and I wiuld like to know what my engine oil temp is. I hope they are accurate with in a degree or two. I don't want to put one in the dash if this LCD in the fill hole will work. Any thoughts? Yea or Nay

Indeed!!! You remove the heat source and it cools down to near ambient air temp in a few hours. The same as a car does. IMHO that is.

In my hands in the house the Dig Dipstick reads 82 Deg F. I had the AC set to 77 Deg F. A good test would be to compair it to a meat Thermometer and put them both in boiling water. Should read close to 212 Deg F.

I may end up getting an oil cooler one day now that I will have an idea of how hot the oil temp will get.

I can only hope mine will last. If it does not then I will get the fairing Temp gauge.

My Ultra had a digital dipstick when I bought it and I have to say it makes checking oil very easy. Temperature +/- a few degrees in accuracy makes little difference as I only expect the guage to give me a base line indication. If suddenly I am getting higher readings then I have something to check out. I find the level reading to be fairly accurate and combined with the convenience factor of not buring my fingers to check oil I am pleased. Pricey, but worth it.:s

Well, to be honest, the gas gauge I bought from the dealer was made in China, just re-badged with HD. I guess you enjoy paying top dollar for a product only to have it fail, twice, and then be told by the same parts guy I bought it from, "yeah, we have lots of problems with those." I actually do own a "Jap" and a German bike as well. Love my Harley, but am not so brain-washed that I believe everything bearing the HD seal is somehow better or immune to any expectation of functionality. LOL

I hear ya man. I went through many Hondas, Kawasakis, before I got the Harley. I really think they all want only money, money, for the junk made overseas. Some good most bad any more.

I have the HD LCD dipstick and I also have the Dakota Digital Gauges and it has the oil temp gauge installed in the fairing. Bottom line is that the HD LCD dipstick is just a waste of money IMO. There is a a big difference in oil temp readings between the in dash oil temp gauge and the LCD dipstick and I trust that the Dakota Digitals are the more accurate then the LCD dipstick. I got the LCD dipstick before my Dakota Digital gauges but I still run both, if I knew what I know now I would have saved my money and just went with the in dash oil temp gauge. Use that casino money on the in dash oil temp gauge and a oil cooler, also since you are in NV a oil cooler should be on TOP of your wish list.

I've had my LCD dipstick for just over a year and the oil level sender went south on it. It shows 2 bars and will occasionally jump to 3 bars. In a moment of not thinking, I added a half quart of oil and the dipstick didn't register any change!! When I checked the actual level.. it was well overfull. I pulled the dipstick out and cleaned it and while sitting on bench, it still shows half full. So, I no longer trust the level indicator and will probably invest in the fairing mounted temperature gauge. I am a little disappointed that a $150 accessory died so soon...guess that's how the MOCO keeps fleecing us.

You might try removing the battery to see if it resets. I would probably replace the battery just in case.
