I just got my other set of Tins painted for my 07 Night Train. I have never had the tins off on a softail before so what should I look out for? I don't want to scratch the tins when taking them off oe scratch the freshly painted tins when going on.
You can let the paint cure (takes about a week) and then use construction tape over raised or corner areas that may contact the tins (bending over the tape ends so it is easier to remove them "gently..."!
Cover everying while your working on it. Just one time to drop a wrench or something will ruin your day. Don't ask me how I know this.:bigsmiley15:
PATIENCE, lots of it. Work slowly, When you are removing a part, put it back in position (like replay), pay attention to the angle, tilt, etc. that it goes on/off. When working around paint, I slip an old sock over my wrench handles because I know I'm gonna bang the paint. Like others said, use tape or rags where tin is gonna slip between forks or frame rails.
