Hubby's Surgery Underway

Joy being a caregiver has got to be one of the hardest things I have ever done. Just try to remember that while this is ongoing it can seem all consuming, but as Steve heals the reward of having been a part of the recovery will be your reward. You are stronger than you think and all of us here are wishing you and Steve many years of pain free living. I have it on good authorty that the vibes from a Harley can shorten recovery time!!:D

Don very well said !!! i know what you mean while my wife was bed ridden for four months and i was the only one there for the first three months. no friends or neighbors close to the house so it was a tough time. i did learn something very important that i will share with you on SaltSpring

head up Joy, we are all with you and Steve

Thank you Lorne. :s About 2:30 today, he made a comment, 'I'm bored out of my mind'. I thought oh no, here we go. But the pain block has officially worn off now, so we are getting an idea of what is in store. Not terrible so far, he can move his toes and set it on the floor, but he tried to move his ankle, that wasn't too smart. :) That also was not on the docs orders, but he won't be trying that again. He had to try though. Thankfully it is wrapped pretty tight.

I may not have much time tomorrow, I think I have to make a book run for him, he goes through them pretty quick and then I have to get some cooking chores done to make Thursday go smoother. But, that will all depend on how he is getting along.

sounds like time for an ebook. looks out there to choose from i have a kindel and love it......might be a good thanks giving present for him...or you for the break....best of luck

Lorne, I got him an iPad last year, and he claims he can't operate it! He does however use his iPhone constantly.....explain that! LOL, the iPad is an iPhone on steroids, but he doesn't want to use it, I like it though. :D

His claim on the ebook is that he has never had a book run out of battery at the end....if he gets a 'book' wet, it isn't ruined....etc. The man rebels against technology until he 'discovers' it. :D

Have a happy Thanksgiving all!

i have the same problem

Well, it has been two weeks since the surgery. Tomorrow we go back to the doctor for the follow up and we will see his foot for the first time in the two weeks.....I hope I don't hurl again. :bigsmiley25::newsmile068::newsmile068::newsmile068:

So far, everything has gone very well. The pain factor has not been what we anticipated (thank goodness!). But it has not been pain free either. :s

Hoping for the best!

I'm sure he will be fine as long as he has and will follow dr's orders Make sure you bring a bag with you Joy just in case! Hope everything turns out well!:)

Great news.....I didn't hurl! :D And the doctor is very pleased with how it looks. Double woot!

He still isn't allowed to bear any weight, but the doc said that starting next week, he can start the weight bearing, but he is to take it slow. Not to push it too far, and while he is sitting, he is to work on the range of motion. So far, he already has more range of motion than before the surgery, so that was very good, however, it wouldn't have taken much to improve the situation.

It was good to see the doctor so pleasantly surprised. :s I have to give Steve kudos, he has been a very good patient. He is following the doctors orders to a T. This is pretty important to him. He was nearly ready to sell the farm because he could hardly walk there, let alone keep it up. So, he has been doing exactly what he is told. :newsmile105::newsmile105:

He hasn't driven hardly at all, a couple of very short local trips. Which really surprised me. So, with all that good news, we did have to get some bad news. His father has had a setback, (father-in-law had a stroke on Monday, :( ) We are headed over to visit him tomorrow and evaluate the situation. I am starting to think we may never see normal again. We will get through, but tomorrow will involve a 500 mile round trip to visit his dad, even though I will have to do all the driving, I am worried about the hubby. So far, short trips have been hard on him, tomorrow will be a doozy, not only physically, but mentally as well.

I will update you all on our return. I can't thank you all enough for your support! Is it summer yet? :small3d009::14::14::small3d004::beach:beach:beach

You are still on the prayer chain, maybe some good tunes and some head phones will help Steve with the long trip:s
