A further update.
I put a couple of thousand miles on the bike since changing the sensor, including the annual pilgrimage to Daytona for bike week, and she is running perfectly.
Thanks to all who offered help and suggestions.
This truly is a great forum! Lots of knowledgeable folks and great information.

Did you ever get this problem resolved, I have the same King with similar mileage, it has an intermittent start problem.
