Helmet Law In Nebraska

Anyone have any experience with the helmet law in Nebraska? we have a group going thru Nebraska next week and I know a couple of people plan on not taking any helmets. I hear the fine is $50 plus $25 court costs, question is can they still ride after the ticket, how many tickets can they get? I know this is going to be a slow down for the group, just wondering what we may be dealing with.

I do not want to debate the use or not use, with these people it would not matter, mostly a waste of time. Just want to know if anyone out there has had this happen and what we can expect. thanks Mark

There's no debate involved - if you choose to ride in a state with mandatory helmet laws, you must wear a helmet or be prepared to pay out the wazoo in fines and points on your license. Why would you deliberately do this? Trying to make some sort of point?

I got pulled over on a Nebraska Hwy by a Sheriff Deputy. He gave me a warning for wearing a non-DOT helmit. He informed me that he could impound my motorcycle to get it off the roadway since I could not ride it without a proper helmet. He did let me ride my bike home.

I have seen LEO's "escort" helmitless bikers to a dealer (HD or other) or Walmart to get a helmit. Sadly this state still requires helmits. If enough people choose to ride around Nebraska, maybe it will hit them in their pocketbooks and they will give us a chance to choose.
