Harley Twin Cam Crankcase Plug

How can it be installed incorrectly?

It is a tapered plug much like a pipe fitting. Used at the factory during the manufacturing process. It isn't meant to be removed and if you do then reinstall it and over tighten it the case will crack.

I had a similar situation with a mower. Failed to read owners manual of how to change oil properly and removed plug. Hardly tighten and heard a crack and guess what case split. Thankfully JB Weld was able to fill and fix crack.

I see it in a diagram in my service manual, but don't see a torque spec. for it anywhere. Maybe it's a secret so the MOCO can sell more crank cases?:eam

Is this the plug that is removed when you are putting in an in dash oil temp gage , for the sending unit?

Thanks F.K.
