Got a question,,,,,

This past weekend I had to remove my outer fairing. To make a long story short, when I was doing the work inside the fairing I noticed the two rubber "bushings" or "rings" that are located on the top portion of the front forks were all the way down and the inner fairing metal supports were beginning to cut into them. I slid them up enough to clear them from this but I figure they will eventually slide back down.
My question is,,,, exactly what are these rubber bushings and what are their purpose??? Anyone got an idea?

I believe you are referring to the fork stops but not sure; a picture would help.

I can take a picture from the inner side of the forks. I have the outter fairing back on now. What you said makes sense. I couldn't see any real purpose for them other than sometime like a stop etc.
