I kinda figured that was the problem, but wanted to confirm with newfound brothers, thank youWelcome aboard from Gulf Coast AL. Sounds like you may have fried the starter relay, follow advice from Roadking-1960

Did you attach the starting -aid , in the right way first time ?. Maybe you fried the starter-relay somehow.
Remove the starter relay first , and see if fuse blows .
Check your electric diagram , in your manual , to find wires to measure !.
Edit , I checked a 2005 manual ,and this shows the sportster doesn't have a powerrelay.
