Just got some photos from my brother that were taken of
his son in law's HD. He has two 90 degree brass fittings coming
out of the left side of his gas tank ( one high and forward -
one low and back ) . The fittings are connected by a piece of
clear tubing held onto the fittings by hose clamps . In the
photo the tubing is full of gas . The only purpose I can think
of for this set up would be a fuel gauge ??
Has anyone seen or used this mod before ? Seems it would be
a little dangerous and , at the least , a little uncomfortable at
    times ??

That's usually what that type of setup is for. It takes the place of a fuel gauge.

Thanks again Glider. I apologize for all the ignorant
questions but this modification surprised me.

Back in the mid 60's Suzuki X6 Hustler had that on their tanks for a fuel gauge. Very effective, and no parts. Not like our fuel gauge that moves all over the place and not very accurate.
