excessive oil from vent

    just traded for this 1986 fxstc. the history is died while riding. owner found ign. plate melted. fixed that and then the oil problem started. tore down found breather gear,cam and bearing bad. all has been replaced,flushed cooler,oil tank and lines out. blew through oil pump. new oil and filter. still has problem. though not as bad. bike sat for a few months before i got it. it has pop ups s&s carb and intake, and hot cam part #7-0004b ?.cam seal also leaking. ordered new check valve for pump,gaskets and cam seal hoping to install this weekend along with cleaning and inspecting oil pump. anyone seen this before need help

    Welcome to the forum. Yes, your problem has been discussed a lot through the years. I think you are on the right track with new check valve. Sometimes the check valve seat in the pump is damaged. You can do a search on this forum and/or google for "Harley oil sumping". You will get a lot of information.

    cleaned oil pump, replace and seat check valve and so far no leaks.
