engine swap

I am wanting to change my 1983 flht shovelhead motor with a evolution motor,I already have the stock 5 speed transmission .the motor cases look the same,but not sure the primary is the same,I have not tore it apart yet to see.any tips???

I've not had first hand experience with this, but I remember that the seat post or frame back bone need mods to accept the taller evo engine.
Google something like " evolution motor in shovel head frame", there's bound to be much info available. And remember there are 2 different primary systems for a big twin. The short FLH and FXR, and the long Dyna and Softail primarys.
