Engine Serial Numbers

I just looked at an '05 Sportster to purchase and was suprised at the appearance of the engine I.D. numbers, on the main case just below the juggs. They looked bogus. Can anyone describe what they should look like?

I just looked at an '05 Sportster to purchase and was suprised at the appearance of the engine I.D. numbers, on the main case just below the juggs. They looked bogus. Can anyone describe what they should look like?

The numbers should be PIN stamped (dots make the numbers).
The SN should be Vertically stamped on the right side boss, under the outer cover. Difficult to read because of the oil line in the way.
