Now that is exactly what is going on. Very thorough. Basically the battery acts like a giant capacitor.

If I had a dead battery, I wouldn't even want to jump start it unless it was at absolutely last resort. And I would make sure I was following every precaution possible.

It's easier to call my roadside assistance company or to go get my trailer, or leave the bike and take the battery home and charge it or replace it than it is to fry my bike or to create electrical gremlins down the line.

The other thing is don't jump start with the vehicle running, whether it be a car, truck, or another bike... it causes more spikes in the transient voltage.
