Electrical or mechanical ??

2001 FLHT

My starter engages while the engine is idleing just like you pushed the start button. It will stop and then do it again randomly. Is there a starter relay switch? If so where is it located? I took the handle bar control apart and it looked ok. What could be causing this??

More than likely a grounded wire in the harness is the cause between the relay and the switch which will do the same as pushing the button. Check the harness around the steering head where it constantly bends.

The relay can be found if you follow the green wire on the solenoid back into the harness. Usually under the tank or to the rear of the tank is where they are mounted.
