It doesn't always work that way. My son biked (pedaling) across the US (4000 miles) last summer with a group of kids. In Idaho an elderly cager hit two of them on a highway. One of the kids had to be air-lifted out. The local newspaper reported the accident, saying that the driver and his passenger were shaken but OK. No mention of the two cyclists that were injured. Not all parts of the country take kindly to two-wheel vehicles...not even bicylces!
