Velocity stacks look cool...on a dragster, with flames billowing out if the snarling beast of an engine backfires and if you like the rushing intake air sound. On a street bike, not very practical, as lightly screened air does not FILTER dirt smaller than gravel...and an errant nut or bolt if not for the screen would be death for the pistons and valves downstream.

Also, air fuel mixture management is problematic when a velocity stack changes the available venturi action downstream where your jetting and precious inlet opening really matters. This is where extra velocity to atomize the fuel droplets is needed. A dragster virtually pours fuel into a wide open throttle...street and highway conditions require precise metering of fuel over various throttle openings and air stream speeds so the advantages of an upsteam velocity stack are lost by the time it reaches the business end of the air fuel mix...

HDFAN is spot on. Although sometimes you can have a thin filter screen under the top screen. But they are designed for digital throttle (0, or full on) mostly full on

As NEWHD said about the dirt and gravel, unless you are racing and tearing down after race, Why would you want to suck all that debris in your motor JMO
