crushed 09 street glide

I fell your pain. I work in a automotive shop and we charge for the frist check
and does not matter how much we look over somthing after it has been hit. we always find more. but from talking to the dealer hear in calgary the techs in the shop make an hourly wage and are not flate rate so for them to not check it out fully is bull. not sure how it works for motorcycles but for a car or truck damge has to be more then 75% of the cost off the car or truck. but if they are not willing to check because of insurance you may just have to pay for that inspection and collect from your insuance company or the poeple that have hit yous insurance.

Good morning. Another item you can check very easily, watch very carfully as you remove one bolt from the Engines TOP Link. HD shop had mentioned to me that if motor jumps or moves there is an issue. On this model the Top Link is not adjustabe.
Whats the change of a none HD shop looking at the bike just for another opinion of what should be look at etc. I think the bike should be stripped bare as it is the only way you can check all welds etc. Hows the Swing arm look
I like what martin14 mentioned and lean hard on the adjustor and his boss.
My Sister lives in Burin.

hd8080 (or anyone else) could you fill me in on this bolt in the top link, a pic would be very helpful, the metal fatigue test is going to be done in the next few days and i would like to check this out the same time, i will post results a.s.a.p.

Live to ride...thank God you are alive to post...good luck with your endeavors please keep us posted

Live to Ride sorry to hear about the mishap,, I also just had sombody hit me in the side
week new bike,,, i have to replace the sadlebage, rear fender, and all the chrome about $3000 in repairs, I had some parts left over from my 2003 so i'm still able to ride, while waiting on new painted bag and fender from Hd, the shop said it could be up to 12 weeks to get parts in.. I hope everthing works out, I did try to get ins. to pay for a rental bike, but they would only pay $25 aday when it takes about $100 aday for rental of a bike ,,,,I sure watch the out for the cage that is making a left turn

just an update for those interested in this post. well the bike is repaired, it will be ready for pick up in a few days. the metal fatigue specialist was in and did his inspection once they striped to the frame, the rear section of the frame was damaged as we already know and the front section proved to be ok. i still have an uneasy feeling about the repair and still not being able to ride due to this accident doesn't help. my plan is to have a friend bring the bike to a well respected non harley shop for a complete fluid change and full inspection, maybe this will ease my mind, all for now, once again thanks to all for the helpful sugestions, interest shown and to listen to my rant.

If they have you sign for the bike write " All rights reserved "on the signature line. This should help to maintain your rights for the future

When you seek remuneration from the at fault parties, please consider the poster that said the bike is now depreciated exponentially. Motorcycles that have been involved in wrecks have an inherently different stigma than do automobiles. This could effect re-sale value. Also, watch out for video cameras that will no doubt be out to prove that you aren't as injured as you may really be. I would also be careful of an additional opinion. You will reach the land of diminishing returns quickly and will be spending unrecoverable monies. I would also wonder if the warranty on the repair, aside from the warranty on the motorcycle, could be negatively effected should someone else tear into it to perform an inspection. I would also submit all expenses, because in the interest of your own life, are not unreasonable. I caught this post late, but wonder if the HD chassis engineers would not want to see and study the parts for their own future knowledge or edification.

Be glad you are alive to ride this emotional roller coaster!

PS, You aren't from PEI are you? You mentioned a fairy boat ride so I thought maritime provinces...

hey LTR, having someone outside have a look at the bike is probably a good idea.

If your friend can take her for a good hard ride, might also help to see if things
were done properly.

Question: being an '09, probably still under warranty, but will the dealer
give a separate warranty / special consideration for the frame work they have done ?

Lastly, I dont know how serious your injuries were, or when you can get back
in the saddle, but I hope it's soon.

Newfoundland needs more Harleys !!

After reading your first post, you're lucky to be here!!!! I pray you continue to heal!! I think having an independant shop look at your bike is a good idea!!
