My 86 FXRS is cooking batteries. New battery is boiling after a short ride (old battery swelled the case). Voltage regulator is what I'm thinking as the voltage, at the battery, with engine turning 3500 RPM is jumping between 17 volt DC and 19 volt DC......any feed back would be helpful if this indicates bad Voltage Regulator I won't have to hassle any more and replace the thing

Don't run it any longer and replace the regulator. The highest you should see is about 14.5 volts.
