Check engine light

Just bought an 03 fatboy. Check engine light comes on when I first start the bike and goes off in 3 seconds. Normal?

Most likely it's doing a lamp circuit test. Should be normal.

It is telling you there is a stored code. Something happened, then fixed itself, most likely an electrical gremlin. You can check the stored codes if you want to know what caused it. I believe it will stop after the ignition switch's 50 on/off cycles.
