anyone know if you can use ceramic coating over chrome? And if so how? Or how to remove chrome? Read an article on it said use 40% muriatic acid solution? Don' t want to do sand blasting. Any clues anyone ever done this? Help!!! Lol
From what I have read this is a highly toxic and should be done at a prescribed vendor. Are you trying to do thid yourself?
I would take it to a plating house for stripping. I'm sure it is a toxic mess, gases poisonous too. Steve
If you have access to sandblasting equipment I would suggest that, you would not have to deal with the danger and toxicity of hydrochloric acid, which btw is 37% technical grade. I have never tried to remove chrome plating but sanding seems like the easiest way for a DIY
Might help. Good read: http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/general/slightly-ot-how-store-dispose-muriatic-acid-175051/
You really should contact a plating company, the cost would be very reasonable. Why not contact whoever is going to do the ceramic coating, they may want to do the removal and prep work. Here is the MSDS for muriatic acid. http://www.kleanstrip.com/uploads/documents/GKGM75006_KSG_Safer_Muriatic_Acid_MSDS.pdf
