I got to the compression rings on the motor and was wondering about the dot that I have on one of my rings. Does that indicate direction?

I have flat top pistons on my motor and was wondering what the ingap should be on the rings. Any help is appreciated

Typically dot goes up and dont forget to stagger the rings and check the end gap

Hi Dirtyray; I just consulted my '92 service manual. Here's a few specifics you might want to know.
Compression ring end gap = .007 - .020
oil ring gap = .009 -.052
the dot goes up, on the 2nd ring, because it is a reverse twist to aid oil control.
ring eng gap positions are - 2 o'clock - oil ring
4 o'clock - top ring & oil expander
8 o'clock - oil ring
10 o'clock- second ring- dot up
