brake problem

Sounds like air in the line. Have you tried a reverse bleed?
You need a brake line fluid pump and fill the line from the bottom. I have heard of some doing this just by leaving the cap off the master fluid reservoir overnight and tapping the lines and reservoir then filling from the top. The pump works best.
I'm not assuming you don't know how to do this, just providing some info for others that don't bleed this way.

When 1 man bleeding kits are used to bleed brakes air can be drawn into the system past the threads of the bleeder to eliminate this problem and get good firm feel on the brake leaver
Apply pressure to the brake leaver open the bleeder the brake leaver will go fully in close the bleeder and then release the leaver
With clear plastic pipe attached to the bleeder you can watch the fluid as it expelled to ensure it is clear of air

Thanks for all the responses.
Yesterday I removed the calipers and pads, cleaned everything and reassembled and bled the system again. I now have a real firm feel on the lever.
Thanks again.

Thanks for keeping us posted. Glad you got the problem fixed.
