Bike is running hot.

No, I have taken my heatshields off and my pipes are wrapped.

I know the previous owner used synthetic oil,
but I dont know what type... I'm actually about to do my 10k service myself
(first time I've ever done it, so I'll def be using the resources here on this great site!)

you like redline products? any advice on which are the best?

I like Redline for years and Have Only used them.. I use 20/50 Redline in the motors.
MTL Redline for the primary(says for wet clutch on bottle)
Schockproof heavy gear oil in the tranny.. 75W250 this is for the Big HD not the sporty.(? another weight and style is available for the sport by Redline)

I would read up on the Redline and see if it is available easily in your area or have it Shipped in thru internet sales of which,,, Many there.

1.) May want to check this link (found by Search tab w/ keywords wrapped pipe) regarding wrapped pipes, can get expensive in a year or two.

2.) 10k Service is a piece of cake, just get service manual, gaskets, o-rings, lube, oil, tools, hex/torx bits, socket set, manual impact wrench, 3/8" torque wrench, oil filter & drain trays and 3/8" Torque wrench for critical fasteners check. Self Help section has routines that you should review.

3.) Redline is well received but you should study the oil polls and this thread of HDTimeline recommended oils and lubes as a start.

Lot of stuff to study, prep and do, just give yourself plenty of time start Friday night and have plenty of time to complete the deed while HD Dealers and suppliers are still open when you do that "last minute run" for that item you forgot...no worries, we have all done that! :D
