Great info Jack for those looking for a alternative from a OE HD battery..
I use the Batteries Plus battery in my XL1200 Sportster, it works fine, but I did have to profile the terminals with a file to ensure flat/solid connection to the HD battery cable ring connector ends. Used a pocket knife to make connections shiny and di-electric grease to inhibit corrosion. Their warranty is good too...my first battery had a loose internal threaded insert connection that drove me crazy...and actually melted the lead terminal in the final stages. Even after a year, they replaced it with no issue after I showed them the battery and terminal. The H-D OEM battery lasted for 8+ years with no issues, but the HD battery is about $50 more while Batteries Plus does go on coupon sale on occasion.
