Balanced vs nonbalanced

Pros are less vibration from a rigid mounted engine.

Cons are it takes a few HP away from the engine and more moving parts to go bad.
 
By balanced are you speaking of the counter balancers for the softail models? Or are you speaking of a blueprinted balanced motor? In the latter all parts are weighed and each part is corrected to the same weight as it's counterpart.

Being it's a softtail I would guess he is talking about the former (Type B engine), which Glider's answer takes care of that.

However that's a good point to clarify, since the advantages of the latter are far more diverse.
