Air Filter Question

Good Day...I was doiing some routine maintanence on my 09 flhx and was cleaning my stock air filter which looks pretty beat. My question is this...I have done no mods to engine and was wondering if I upgrade only my air filter to a k&n and use stock cover if that would be o.k. for now until i get to the pipes and the fuel. I want to give it more air for now. Will this affect any other things in the meantime.Goiing on a 4,000 mi trip and wanted to deal with this prior. Thanks for your help.

If you are installing a K&N, go with the stage 1 kit instead of just replacing the stock filter with the K&N filter of the same dimensions. It will flow more air and the engine will run better. You would want to add fuel too if you do this or it would be lean. I suggest the TFI to add fuel.

So for now I may be better off just replacing with stock filter unless I plan to do it ....the right way...at least for now. What do you think Glider.

I just ordered that K&N RK-3930 filter kit. It seems larger than the Stage 1 filter and it fits under the stock air filter cover.

It's a bigger element in diameter.
