72 tranny issues

tried to start my 72 ironhead the other day in the middle to try and start the kick got jammed. moved the bike and was hard moving. went to check to see if bike was in neutral and wouldnt shift. clutch is fine and still wouldnt shift. took out tranny. what am i suppose to be looking for to see what the bind is?

Not crazy about the "boat tail" but it too is "classic" either way...

Being as there is a huge coil spring tensioning/lockup toothed setup, sounds like something is jammed and binding the works. I would be very careful of something snapping back once tension is removed...maybe violently. Go to Bike Bandit and see if you can find an exploded diagram of the setup before taking something apart...wear eye protection and make sure you cover area with something like a sacrificial pot to protect yourself, just in case...
